FAQs about Teacher Training
The growth and restructuring of JourneyDance™ is an evolutionary process. As JourneyDance™ moves toward recognition with an expressive/somatic movement therapy association or spiritual affiliation, we are changing our teaching and certification requirements to fulfill necessary qualifications.
New certification standards require a minimum of 3 Modules to be a fully Certified JourneyDance™ Facilitator. We are creating an optional coaching/supervision program necessary for recognition, including varied and interesting workshops, webinars, and relevant courses.
If you would like to accrue hours for recognition with an association you will need to complete Module 3 and the coaching/supervision program. In order to meet the requirements for organizations with which we will align, we need to offer a 200 and 500 hour track. Completing Modules 1, 2, & 3 will give you 200 hours including a home practice segment. Adding the coaching/supervision option will give you the ability to reach the 500 hour track. We are very excited to expand our programs to allow for this new career option. We will keep you posted as we roll out each new phase.

Q. What is the daily schedule?
A. Times vary greatly by location. In general we will follow an intensive schedule. Every day will have two or three sessions. We will be dancing, experiencing, discussing, sharing, and dancing more. We may adjust our session times to give ourselves a little extra time for integration, absorption, class preparation, etc. Your presence is expected for all sessions, even if you choose not to dance, and we encourage self-care. The following are approximate times (subject to change):
Mornings: 8:30am–12:00pm
Afternoons: 1:45–4:45 pm
Evenings: 7:00–9:30 pm
Q. Will the Training be demanding, physically or emotionally?
A. This training is intensive in nature, including many sessions of dancing, plenty of time for discussion in small and large groups, and time for personal process. As with movement, there exists the potential to bring up emotions stored in the body. These may surface and will be allowed expression. Self-care and self-love is absolutely essential throughout. Make sure to hydrate yourself, get plenty of rest, and take time to breathe and allow the deep process of integration and transformation. JourneyDance™ is about fostering a relationship of love with your body and yourself, so take this time to strengthen this relationship. From years of dancing experience on various types of floors, we strongly recommend Chinese felt knee-pads. You can order our favorite, lightweight knee-pads online at journeydance.com, or purchase them at the Training. (Remember to write your name on the tag of your kneepads!)
Q. How can I best prepare for the Training?
A. Gradually increase your daily cardio-vascular activity. Begin nourishing your health with diet and supplements. Gradually increase your daily yoga or stretching for strengthening. Begin or solidify a meditation practice. Read/watch/listen to books/videos/audio by inspiring teachers who use positive languaging.
Q. What should I bring to the Training?
A. If you benefit from joint support, bring knee or ankle braces. Barefoot will be the safest way to dance, and if you have dance paws, those can be helpful (soft leather straps to protect sensitive foot areas.) Dress in layers, and if you perspire heavily, then multiple layers. Bring your own water bottle and stay hydrated. A journal and pen for taking notes. A laptop computer for music, or other music sources for sharing.
