Autumn Harvest JourneyDance Retreat
October 17-19th, 2014
Friday 5pm-Sunday 1pm
I have always loved to dance, but never liked following anyone’s choreography. I never considered myself "a dancer." I danced in clubs, at raves and Barefoot Boogie events, but took few classes.
In 2003, I visited Kripalu for a day. I found myself in the Danskinetics class. I had no idea what the class was. A woman hesitantly stepped into the room, then backed away saying, "I'm not a dancer." I waved her in and said it was fine, she was welcome. I had no idea if that was true... She joined us. The class was very free-form and celebrated each participant’s natural movement. I watched her go from reluctance to joy and connection in one hour!
I was hooked. I knew I wanted to do this for people.
I came back to Kriplau and stayed for 4 months. I took Danskinetics almost every day. I LOVED it. One Saturday, Toni Bergins taught the class. She brought us through a fire ritual. I laughed and cried and I released more that day than in 4 months of living there. I KNEW this was my teacher and I wanted to share this profound and playful work with my community.
I took Module 1 in 2007 and have been teaching since. I took Mod 2 in 2012, and Mod 3 in 2014. It has profoundly transformed my relationship with my body, my heart and my community. I am more content with who I am than ever before. Thank you Toni and JourneyDance!
My life’s mission is to be of service and the way I come to that is through healing work. I have been in private practice as a Holistic Bodyworker since 1997. I find great joy in serving others. I believe my work is about supporting people to feel good and safe in their bodies and lives, weather that is through relieving pain, increasing awareness, bringing presence, creating safety to feel or finding their life’s passions.
I love learning new things and incorporating them into my work. I began practicing yoga for my own healing in 1992 but never imagined that one day I would be teaching. I graduated from Pima College with a degree in American Sign Language Interpreting in 1993, The World School of Massage and Holistic Healing in 1998 with certifications in Holistic Massage and Holistic Health Counseling, The Providence Institute with a certification in Zen Shiatsu in 2005, The Breema Center with a Certification in Breema Bodywork in 2008. I also hold certificates from the Spiritual Lifestyle Program at Kriplau, Yin Yoga with Joe Barnett and Michelle Marks, and the International Association of Scientific Hand Analysis. I am Certified JourneyDance Facilitator and a Certified Muscle Release Technique Practitioner.
Most of what I have studied is in an attempt to come into balance with myself and share what I have learned with others. I live in Tucson, Az and teach yoga, at Tucson Yoga, lead JourneyDance and Retreats with my amazing husband Ben.
