I first experienced conscious dance while on retreat at the Kripalu Centre for Yoga and Health in 2009. Every day at lunch time they offer a movement class. Being open to new experiences and making the most of my time there, I eagerly attended and participated in a couple yoga dance classes. But it wasn’t until day three, during Toni Bergin’s JourneyDance class, when I really felt the transformational power of movement.
As a young girl I was active in many forms of physical activity like figure skating, gymnastics, tap and jazz dancing. As I grew up and became interested in other activities, I lost touch with these forms of expression. They became buried beneath the expectations of life, the social norms, the drive for a career, money, relationships.
But I always felt that little girl deep inside of me bursting at the seams wanting to be free to dance, sing, laugh, play and soar. And that day in Toni’s JourneyDance class she did. It was at that moment, with tears streaming down my face, I knew something had shifted inside of me. I had rekindled my passion.
Four years later I have completed two JourneyDance teacher trainings and offer classes, workshops, and retreats.
I’m Michelle. On paper, I’m a certified health & wellness coach, nutrition consultant, newspaper columnist, former PR gal with a couple university degrees. In my heart, I’m a spiritual seeker, bread crumb follower, journey dancer, safe space creator, soul listener, deep thinker, health crusader, and lifelong learner. As an ISFJ I’m compassionate, and down to earth, and my virgo sun sign indicates I go about life with quiet precision.
I work primarily with women who are struggling with the effects of sugar. I help them reclaim their inner sweetness and let go of sugar for good.
Looking back over my life I’ve been graced with some unique experiences that me make me. In no particular order, I have: run a marathon, had my heart shattered, managed a communications team, been arrested, backpacked through Southeast Asia, found the courage to leave the corporate world, endured a painful family secret, met my husband online, won a beauty pageant, wrestled with drugs and alcohol, bought a house on the ocean, and found my calling.
I want to live in a world where there are no food or lifestyle-related diseases because we eat only what our bodies truly need and we’re well-nourished from the inside out.
